2 cans of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

1 teaspoon of turmeric
1 teaspoon of garam masala
1 teaspoon of salt
2 cups of tomatoes, chopped
1/2 cup of water

Instructions:

  1. Heat the oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and fry until they start to sizzle.
  2. Add the ginger, and green chili pepper and sauté for another minute.
  3. Add the coriander powder, turmeric, garam masala, and salt, and sauté for a few seconds.
  4. Add the chopped tomatoes and water, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes until it thickens.
  5. Add the chickpeas and stir well to coat them with the tomato-based gravy. Let it simmer for another 5-10 minutes until the chickpeas are heated through.
  6. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice, naan, or other Indian bread.
